🧶 Crochet a Plushie Sloth in a Hammock – The Chillest Project You’ll Ever Make 🦥💤
Share
Hey there, crafty soul!
Let’s be real — sometimes life is too fast. That’s why this week’s crochet project is dedicated to the slowest, sweetest, sleepiest creature on the planet: the sloth. And because even sloths deserve a little luxury, we’re stitching up a cozy hammock for our little buddy to lounge in.
Whether you’re a seasoned amigurumi adventurer or just dipping your toes into plushie-making, this Sloth in a Hammock project is the perfect mix of adorable, relaxing, and totally giftable.
So grab your yarn, channel your inner sloth, and let’s get stitchin’ — slow and steady, of course.

Brown or beige – for the sloth body

Any colour you like for the hammock!
🧵 Tools & Notions:

3.5 mm crochet hook (or size that matches your yarn)
-
Yarn needle
-
Stitch marker
-
Polyester stuffing

Safety eyes (8-10mm) or black yarn for eyes
-
Scissors
-
Optional: Twine or ribbon to “hang” the hammock
✨ Meet Your Plushie Sloth
This little guy is about 6 inches long, and the hammock can be made to fit wherever you want him to chill — whether it’s strung between two shelves, plants, or just sitting in a cozy corner.
Pro tip: Make a mini jungle around him with fake plants and vines. Total sloth paradise.
🦥 Part 1: Crochet the Sloth
🔸 BODY & HEAD (Worked as one)
Use brown or beige yarn.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring
Rnd 2: inc in each st around (12)
Rnd 3: (sc, inc) around (18)
Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) around (24)
Rnd 5–11: sc around (24)
Rnd 12: (2 sc, dec) around (18)
Rnd 13: (sc, dec) around (12)
Insert safety eyes between Rnds 7 and 8, about 5–6 sts apart
Rnd 14: dec around (6), fasten off
Stuff firmly and set aside.
🔸 FACE PATCH (Light tan yarn)
Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring
Rnd 2: (sc, inc) around (9)
Fasten off, leave tail to sew.
🧵 Embroider or sew onto front of head. Add:
-
Eye patches (optional: two small brown ovals)
-
Smile (black thread or yarn)
-
Nose (embroider a tiny triangle or oval)
-
Blush (pink yarn or a dab of blush!)
🔸 ARMS (Make 2 – these will “hang” from the hammock)
Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring
Rnd 2–5: sc around (6)
Stuff lightly, flatten, and sew to the sides of the sloth’s body pointing upward like he's hanging!
🔸 LEGS (Make 2 – optional for lounging look)
Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring
Rnd 2–4: sc around (6)
Stuff lightly, flatten, sew to bottom of body
You can also pose the legs as if they’re “dangling” out of the hammock. Super chill.
🧵 Part 2: Crochet the Hammock
Here’s the fun part — this “leafy” or “net-style” hammock is easy and looks adorable. Feel free to adjust the size to fit your sloth or your space.
🌿 BASIC HAMMOCK (Rectangle style)
With green or your chosen yarn:
Ch 26 (or wider depending on your sloth size)
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (25)
Row 2–8: ch 1, turn, sc across (25)
🧶 Want a net-look? Try using dc instead of sc and chaining 1 between stitches.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
🪢 Add Hanging Loops
Ch 10 and sl st to each corner of the hammock to create loops — these are for “hanging” your hammock between two points (like bookshelf edges, sticks, or hooks on a wall). You can also use ribbon or jute twine for a rustic touch.
🧸 Assembly & Display
🧺 Place your sloth inside the hammock with his arms draped over the edges. Sew or tack the arms in place if needed so he doesn’t slip out.
🎋 Hang the hammock using push pins, hooks, or string tied between two points.
🪴 Decorate around it with vines, mini leaves, or even a tiny crochet banana!
💬 Bonus: Customize Your Sloth
-
Add a tiny sleeping cap or blanket
-
Make a mini pillow for his hammock
-
Stitch a tiny sign above him: “Do Not Disturb: Napping” 😴
🎉 You Did It!
Look at you, stitching up tropical vibes and cozy naps! Your plushie sloth in a hammock is not only adorable, but it’s also the ultimate symbol of slow living — something we could all use a little more of, right?
If you made this project, I’d love to see your chill little buddy! Send us a pic in the comments.
Until next time, stay cozy, stay crafty, and take it slooooow. 🦥💚
